5 Fun Facts About Philadelphia Eagles’ Nick Foles’ 7 TD Pass Game

Filed under: 5 Fun Facts — by Mark on November 4, 2013

Nick Foles lit the NFL world on fire yesterday when he threw 7 touchdown passes in a 49-20 victory over the visiting Oakland Raiders. Here’s a quick look at five fun facts regarding his amazing performance of a feat that had only been accomplished six times in history. The previous six QBs to pull this off were Sid Luckman in 1943, Adrian Burk in 1954, George Blanda in 1961, Y.A. Tittle in 1962, Joe Kapp in 1969, and Peyton Manning in 2013.

#1 – Once he tied the record, Nick Foles made the Philadelphia Eagles the first franchise to have two different quarterbacks toss 7 TD passes in a game as he joined Adrian Burk who’d done it back in 1954 against the Redskins.

#2 – Understandably overshadowed by his record tying performance was the fact that Nick Foles threw for more passing yards, a total of 406, than he had ever thrown for in one game before. He also became the sixth quarterback in Eagles history to have a 400 yard game, joining Sonny Jurgensen, Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Vince Young.

#3 – The 139 receiving yards put up by Riley Cooper in the victory over the Raiders was a career personal best for him as well. This topped his previous best of 120 yards just a few weeks earlier in a win over the Buccaneers and was the second 100 yard receiving game of his career.

#4 – Of the seven quarterbacks who have thrown 7 TD passes in one game, only three have done so without throwing a single interception: Y.A. Tittle, Peyton Manning, and Nick Foles.

#5 – Riley Cooper was a favorite in this performance, hauling in three of Nick Foles’ 7 TD passes. Just less than 50 years ago when Philadelphia’s Adrian Burk tossed his seven TD passes it was the Eagles’ Pete Pihos who had caught three of them for scores.
