Larry Bird was a one of a kind basketball player who really came into the league and put on a great show for fans of him, the Boston Celtics, and all of basketball really. Here is a look at five fun facts about this great player.

That’s A Serious Drought!

Larry Bird was the first player out of Indiana State University to play in the NBA since Dick Atha in 1956.

And Four Played More

There were four players taken in the 1978 NBA Draft, the same year that Larry Bird Was drafted, who would go on to play in more NBA games than him: Maurice Cheeks, Reggie Theus, Wayne Cooper, and Mychal Thompson.

An Improvement Of 32!

The year before Larry Bird joined the Celtics, their team record had been 29-53. In Larry Bird’s first season with the team their record improved to 61-21.

Take That, Indiana!

Larry Bird’s first 50 point game in the NBA came in 1983 against the same team he would later coach and serve as an executive with, the Indiana Pacers.

In The Big O’s Shadow

Larry Bird retired as the second highest scoring NBA player born in Indiana. In first place was the great Oscar Robertson.
