Nolan Ryan is one of the all time great pitchers in Major League Baseball history. He was truly impressive and was almost impossible to take your eyes off of when he was on the mound. His amazing fastball was one of the best that many players ever had a chance to swing at and miss. Here are five fun facts about Nolan Ryan.

High School Star

In one game during his senior year at Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas, Nolan Ryan struck out 21 players.

The Minor Leagues

The first minor league team that Nolan Ryan would play for was the Marion Mets in Marion, Virginia.

The First Of Them All

Nolan Ryan gave up 321 home runs during his career. The first player to ever homer off the future Hall of Famer was Atlanta Braves slugger, and future Hall of Fame manager, Joe Torre.

Nolan Ryan The Reliever?

Nolan Ryan won 318 games during his Major League Baseball career. He also accumulated three saves during his career, one each with the Mets in 1969 and 1970 and then one with the Angels in 1973.

Who Hit Him Best?

The player who would get more base hits off of Nolan Ryan than anyone else during the pitcher’s long career was longtime Royals star George Brett. Brett had 29 hits in 101 at bats against Ryan for a .287 batting average.
