Tony Parker’s Amazing Shot

The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the more successful basketball teams over the past couple of decades. Along the way they have been involved in some great games and have featured some great players. Here are five fun facts about a team that opponents always have to worry about.

A Patriotic Beginning

The San Antonio Spurs actually started out as the Dallas Chaparrals of the American Basketball Association. Their original team colors were red, white, and blue. The 2004 NBA Live video game featured the Chaparrals’ road uniform as a hidden jersey you could unlock.

13 Short!

The first player to play in 1,000 or more games in a Spurs uniform was Tim Duncan. Big man David Robinson played his entire Hall of Fame career in San Antonio and finished with a total of 987 games for the franchise, just 13 short of accomplishing it ahead of Duncan.

Making Their Presence Known

The 1975-76 season was the last for the American Basketball Association. In their last season in the ABA, the Spurs sent four players to the ABA All-Star Game: George Gervin, Larry Kenon, Billy Paultz, and James Silas.

Double That… And Then Some

The 1998-99 season saw Spurs star Sean Elliott become the first player in team history to make over 500 career three point shots. He would later be passed on the all time team list by Bruce Bowen but then Manu Ginobili would become the first Spurs player in history to make over 1,000 career three point shots for the team.

It Took Long Enough, Tony!

After more than 11 seasons in the NBA, Tony Parker of the Spurs finally had the first triple-double of his career in a win over the Rockets on December 10, 2012. In that game he scored 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out 12 assists.
