The news hit today that former BYU running back and Raiders tight end Todd Christensen passed away today due to complications during liver transplant surgery. What a pair of hands this man had. Those 1980s Raiders teams saw Christensen catch everything thrown his way. He even led the NFL in receptions twice in 1983 and 1986. He would later become famous as a broadcaster and more than hold his own there too. He accomplished a great deal as a football player. From the testimonials coming out it seems he was an even better person.

In your honor, here are Five Fun Facts About Todd Christensen.

The First One Ever!

On December 18, 1976, Todd Christensen scored the first touchdown by a BYU player in a postseason bowl game ever. It came on a one yard run and tied up the 1976 Tangerine Bowl at 6-6 between BYU and Oklahoma State. BYU would eventually lose 49-21.

Slow Starter… But It Paid Off

Todd Christensen did not catch his first pass in the NFL until his third season in th eleague in 1981. It was a 21 yard reception for a touchdown, came in a 36-10 victory over the Vikings, and was thrown to him by Jim Plunkett.

41 By Air… But What About The Other?

Todd Christensen scored 42 touchdowns during his NFL career. He scored 41 of them on touchdown receptions. The lone other touchdown, the first one he ever scored, came in a 38-24 win over the Chargers in 1980 when he recovered a fumble in the end zone.

More Than Against Any Other

The San Diego Chargers were the only team that Todd Christensen would gain over 1,000 career receiving yards against during his time in the NFL. He finished with 1,280 in 15 games against San Diego. In second place on that list is the Seahawks who he gained 792 career receiving yards against in 14 games.

Four Threw 41

Todd Christensen caught touchdown passes from four different players during his NFL career. He caught 20 from Jim Plunkett, 16 from Marc Wilson, 3 from Rusty Hilger, and 2 from Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen.
