Tim Tebow was a dominant college quarterback who has gone on to have an intriguing NFL career. At times wanted by teams, coaches, teammates, and fans, while other times shunned or even laughed off. Whichever side you fall on, here are five fun facts about this truly great athlete.

The Tebow Rule

The 2011 NCAA football season started with a new rule that was dubbed by the media as the Tebow Rule. Tebow was gone from the college game by then but one part of his play had changed the game. The rule stated that players were banned from putting messages on the eye black paint that is popularly worn by many below the eyes. Tim Tebow had been known during college to write biblical verses on his eye black but players coming after him would not be allowed to do so.

How Far?

At the NFL Scouting Combine in 2010, the football league’s workout for prospective rookies, Tim Tebow’s broad jump was measured in at nine feet seven inches in length.

Everyone Remembers Their First Time

Tim Tebow threw his first NFL touchdown pass on November 14, 2010 in a 49-29 win over the Chiefs. The play happened in the third quarter, went for three yards, and was caught by Spencer Larsen. This was Larsen’s first NFL touchdown too.

Run, Run, Away

Tim Tebow had his first 100 yard rushing game in the NFL on November 6, 2011 in a 38-24 Broncos win over the Raiders. That game saw him carry the ball 13 times for 118 yards for a 9.08 yard per carry average.

If You Can’t Beat Him, Trade For Him

Before joining the New York Jets for the 2012 season, Tim Tebow had beaten the Jets in his only NFL start against them. That game had taken place on November 17, 2011 and saw Tebow complete 9 of 20 passes for 104 yards and also run the ball 8 times for 68 yards and a touchdown.  When the season was over the Jets acquired Tebow in a trade with the Broncos.
