Russell Wilson lit the NFL on fire when he came in for his rookie campaign in 2012 with the Seattle Seahawks. He had some great runs and showed off some great moves but he really was an exceptional passer too. Here are five fun facts about Russell Wilson’s rookie year in the NFL.

Russell Wilson finished the 2012 season with 489 rushing yards at the quarterback position. This set a new Seahawks team record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season. The previous record holder had been Rick Mirer who ran for 343 yards his rookie season in 1993.

How Long Was The Longest?

The longest touchdown pass Russell Wilson threw during his rookie season in 2012 was thrown in the fourth quarter of a 24-23 win over the Patriots on October 14, 2012. The play went for 46 yards and the pass was caught by Sidney Rice.

Russell Wilson threw 26 touchdown passes as a rookie in 2012. He threw them to eight different receivers. He later topped this in the playoffs when he threw for 385 yards in a loss to the Falcons for the first 300 yard game of his NFL career.

Home field advantage or not, Russell Wilson threw for more passing yards on the road, a total of 1,614, than he did at home where he threw for 1,504 yards during the 2012 NFL season. Likewise, his running improved away from Seattle too as he gained 266 yards in away games and 223 in home games.
